A master's job is
never done, it lives on through the ages.
The annual installation of Officers was held on January 20, 1928. It is also noted that Dr. McMurtry after being denied admission into the Lodge several times was installed as Treasurer for the ensuing Masonic year. Also Wor. Brother G. J. Tyler was installed as Secretary, the fourth to hold such a position in Clovis Lodge. It is also noted that there seems to be a pattern of someone giving a "good talk" at the end of each stated meeting on some subject and its relevance to Masonry.
In this year an investment group was formed whose duty it was to watch over the funds of the Lodge and invest them where they would do the best and make the most profit for the Lodge. In April, they had a visitor, Professor Andrew, who gave a talk about the advancement of Masonry since the time of Kit Carson, who was a member of a Lodge in New York in 1825.
In May of this year, $50.00 was donated to the Grand Master of Mason's of California, to go towards the erection of a Masonic Club House located on the grounds of the University of Los Angeles, which is now known as U.C.L.A., also in this month the "San Joaquin Light and Power" (now known as PG&E) degree team came to Clovis to put on a degree for Bro. W. Jackson.
In Big Creek in June there was a third degree and on the sign in sheet there were 57 names and the following states were recognized, California, Arizona, Georgia, New York, Arkansas, Indiana, and Michigan.
In September, Worshipful Master Merriman , along with two others, gave their third degree proficiencies, something that just seemed strange for some reason. This was the first time a sitting Master gave his proficiency.
